Wills & Estates

Thinking about a Will and Powers of Attorney can be intimidating, and we understand that.  We try to make the process of drafting a Will and Powers of Attorney as painless as possible.  We try to work with our clients to draft a Will that reflects what you want, and we are willing to send out drafts for you to review prior to signing.

Wills and Powers of Attorney often get pushed to the back-burner when people lead busy lives and have families; however, they are two of the most important things to have in place to ensure that your assets are distributed in the manner you want, and that if you are no longer able to manage your affairs, you have appointed someone to do so.  It is also crucial if you have children and want to ensure that they are looked after when you pass.  It is best to make the process as easy as possible for your loved ones, and the easiest way of doing that is to plan ahead.

We can also assist families, particularly executors and estate trustees, after a person has passed.  We work with the executor to, among other things, interpret the terms of the Will, advise the beneficiaries of their inheritance, gather all the important information about bank accounts and other assets, work with the accountant to file the final tax return, apply to the governmental authorities to obtain any clearances that are needed, and send out any releases that are required.  There are many steps involved in the administration of an estate, and we can assist you throughout the process.
